Placing an Order
We accept Visa, MasterCard and Paypal through the online shopping cart and over the phone. You may pay using Discover and American Express using the Paypal option. You do not have to have a Paypal account to pay using Paypal. Please note that your credit card charges are applied to your card when your order is placed. We have an order minimum of $20, excluding shipping. If your order does not meet or exceed $20 we reserve the right to cancel the order.
We will not ship your order until you have confirmed an arrival date with us. Please include your preferred arrival date in the comments box on the second screen of the check out. If you do not provide an arrival date in the check out process we will send an email requesting confirmation of the date that works best for you. Acclimation instructions and FedEx tracking numbers are e-mailed the day your order ships. Paper instructions are not included with your order unless requested.
Our checkout is secure and all credit card data is encrypted for your protection.
We ship FedEx Priority Overnight for arrivals on Tuesday-Friday and Saturday upon request in the US.
A note about shipping in very cold temperatures: We have learned over the course of shipping for many years that nighttime temperatures under 20 degrees have a impact on FedEx plane schedules. This may result in some delays in delivery timing. When temperatures are under 20 degrees, please plan to be available for delivery later than the FedEx guarantee timing just in case there is a delay. FedEx does not provide refunds for deliveries which are late due to weather including delays due to cold temperatures.
Salty Underground charges only our cost for shipping to keep the cost of your order as low as possible. FedEx Priority overnight shipping for a berghia only order ranges from approximately $25-$40 in the continental U.S. depending upon where you live. We also ship to Alaska and Puerto Rico for pick up at your local FedEx only. Shipping charges may be a litttle higher to Alaska and Puerto Rico. We do not ship to Hawaii. We do not ship to freight forwarders.
We offer free shipping on livestock orders of $300 or more within the 48 contiguous United States. This offer does not include Alaksa or Puerto Rico. If you want Saturday home delivery the $18 FedEx Saturday surcharge is not covered under the free shipping offer. Saturday pick up at FedEx is free with orders of $300 or more.
You may see your shipping costs prior to paying for your order by selecting the items you want and beginning the checkout process. The second checkout screen in the shopping cart shows your shipping costs. You do not have to pay for your order until the third screen in the checkout process.
We ship using Federal Express (FedEx). We will use your FedEx or UPS account number to ship upon request. We are happy to provide you with a shipping estimate, and to discuss various shipping options available to you. Simply call or e-mail us.
We can ship to arrive on Tuesday through Friday weather permitting. We can ship to arrive on Saturday for pickup at the FedEx location of your choosing if you request this service. Please contact us if you would like to know the location of your FedEx office(s).
We also offer local pickup for St. Louis area orders. Local pickup is free. If the delivery address entered at checkout is in Missouri or Illinois Free Local Pickup will be offered as a shipping option.
If you would like Saturday delivery to your home or business FedEx charges an extra $18 FedEx Saturday surcharge for this service. Please call or email us to confirm FedEx offers Saturday home or business delivery to your address. The Saturday delivery surcharge is not available through the website. We have to e-mail a Paypal invoice or get your credit card over the phone to add this service.
We require that someone is available at the shipping address when FedEx delivers your shipment for the live arrival guarantee to apply. PLEASE NOTE: We do not require a signature for delivery to a home address. We do this for two reasons. First, FedEx charges an extra $5 for a signature. This is an extra fee most people are not willing to pay. Second, if you do not hear FedEx at your door they will drive off with your package. Getting them back to redeilver can be very difficult and may result in a day delay for your livestock delivery.
If you request that the livestock delivery is left outside we will honor your request. This will be done at your own risk.
FedEx requires a signature when delivering to a business address. They do not make exceptions.
We will e-mail your tracking and acclimation information the day we ship. This gives you time to ask questions about the acclimation process prior to their arrival.
To help insure a successful shipment we ask the following of you:
- Ship only to an address where someone is available to accept the delivery. The shipment should not be left outside because it will void the live arrival guarantee.
- If you are unable to accept your shipment as planned, please call us ASAP to reschedule.
- If you live an area where the weather will be below 20 degrees or above 90 degrees, we encourage you to ship to a FedEx location for pick up. This will keep the shipment out of extreme cold or hot delivery trucks.

Packing Berghia Corals and other Livestock
We go to great lengths to insure that your livestock order arrives alive and undamaged. We have researched the best methods and take great care in packing your order. Your order is typically packed between 5pm and 6pm and dropped off at FedEx before 7pm. Your shipping box is always FREE and includes the berghia transfer pipet, bags, protective packing, 1" styro lining (for all corals, fish and inverts), containers, heat/cool packs, and the corrugated box. This is a $4.00 - $8.00 value for FREE!
